  • W. H. Wilkinson Records: Records from a San Francisco lawyer who worked with Chinese immigrants from 1919-1939.
  • Colorado River Relocation Center Scrapbook: This scrapbook of a female employee at the Colorado River Relocation Center in Poston, Arizona includes photographs, a poem, programs, correspondence, and other material. The Colorado River Relocation Center is also known as the Poston Relocation Center and was one of the sites internment camps created for Japanese Americans and Japanese nationals by the U.S. government during World War II.
  • Racial and Ethnic Ephemera Collection: The Racial and Ethnic Ephemera Collection includes a variety of material in various formats. The collection is currently being processed and new items will be added on an ongoing basis. Items of particular interest include anti-Chinese trading cards, postcards, and advertisements.
  • Manuscripts Artifact Collection: Includes an anti-immigration calliope or flute with Chinese immigrants; silk playbill with an ad for a Japanese store.
  • Sheet Music Collection: This collection includes sheet music published from the early 19th century forward including some with references to Asians and Asian Americans.

  • The Colonial Echo, 1937, Yamasaki, p. 86-87; 1930, Wool, p. 66. The student yearbook of the College of William and Mary, began publication in 1899. In addition to photographs of individual students, it includes information and photographs of student groups and activities, scenes of campus and the surrounding area, and occasionally administrators and faculty. It is one of many College of William and Mary publications. The Colonial Echo is available in the Swem Library stacks, Swem Reference, and Special Collections Research Center in Swem Library.
  • Filipino American Student Association, UA 7.038, 1991-[ongoing]: This collection includes by-laws, correspondence, fliers, and other material from this student group.
  • Japanese Cultural Association, UA 7.036, 1999-2008: This collection includes fliers, photographs, scrapbooks, and other material from this student group.
  • South Asian Student Association, UA 7.039, 1991-[ongoing]: This collection includes fliers, correspondence, programs, and other material from this student group.
  • Student Organizations Collection, UA 7.047, 1888-[ongoing]: This collection includes meeting minutes, programs, fliers, and other items commonly produced by student groups. Groups including the
Asian and African Society, Asian Student Council (and the predecessor Asian Student Union), Chinese Students Association,
Korean American Student Association.

Class Activity

Very brief introduction to SCRC. Students in small groups at table each have a few items to review, analyze for about 10 minutes. Each student reports back to the class for about 3 minutes total for each group. Students are encouraged to look at material at other tables after class. Material was grouped as follows:
