Activity Sheet: World War II Scrapbook

for use with Primary Source Activity - World War II Scrapbook

Part I:

1. How are the Japanese portrayed in the photo album?

2. Imagine the album was from a soldier that remained in the United States and worked at a detention center. How might the pictures be different? What kinds of images would the soldier include?

3. Think back to our discussions about World War II. What surprises you about these photographs?

4. What American influences or products can you find in the photographs?

5. Who is the focus of most of the photographs? Are there any women pictured? Are there any African American soldiers? What does this tell you about this soldier's wartime experience?

Part II:

On the back of this sheet, write new captions for 10 of the photographs. Be creative!
